Welcome to the

Crown at Cootham

We are a family run pub located in the heart of the Sussex countryside in the village of Cootham.
This 500 year old Inn oozes charm and character.

Enjoy a table by our large cosy fireplace, crooked beams, and a warm welcome by our fluffy pub dog all await you.

We serve freshly prepared home cooked traditional pub food, real cask ales and a selection of lager and cider on draught. We also offer a great spirit selection including the latest trends in flavoured Gin, Rum and Vodka. We pride ourselves on our friendly and attentive service, come see for yourselves.

We just wanted to let you know about a few changes we’ve made, which we hope you’ll find reassuring in these times, so here’s a little summary.

Social distancing

Much as we could all do with a hug, please respect yours and others personal space by maintaining a social distance where possible.

We will be asking customers to wait at the door for a member of crew to take you to your table, also to  have your temperature taken and sanitise your hands on your way into the pub. This way we can take the time to explain how things work and to also keep an eye on the number of people we have in the pub at any one time. This is also the reason why we’re encouraging bookings only, even just for a drink at the moment.

Indoor gatherings should be in groups of up to two households (including support bubbles). Outdoor gatherings of six people or less can be from up to six households. If your outdoor gathering is of 7 people or more then all should be from no more than two households (or support bubbles).

At busy times, those without prior bookings may be asked to queue and as much as we’ll try our best to get everyone a table, it may not always be possible, in order to keep everyone safe.

Cleaning

We want to reassure you that there’s regular cleaning going on in the pub; all our crew will be maintaining a very regular and strict handwashing routine  and  regular sanitisation of ‘touch points’. At every step, we’ll be following the highest of cleaning standards throughout the pub and in the kitchen.

Service at table

We’ll do our utmost to keep a safe distance where possible when taking orders and serving your table.

You’ll notice some changes to the way we’re laying the tables. To reduce the ‘contact’ with cutlery, we’re placing the knives, forks, and napkins on your table when your food is delivered. Salt and Pepper will be provided in sachets on request, sauce will be served in small individual pots when required.

Space between tables

We wanted to reassure you that care and consideration has gone into spacing the distance between the tables and positioning of the chairs in line with the current government Covid legislation.

Menus

We have menus in plastic holders, all menus are sanitised before and after being handled by both staff and customers.

Bar service

Much as life usually revolves around the bar, please resist the temptation to stand at the bar There is however an order point at the bar where we utilise a plastic screen for those ordering. We will always be happy to take table orders for our seated guests inside if you prefer.

Pool and Darts

Due to strict rules and regulations regarding bar sports, the use has been restricted to pub  leagues only.  All leagues players will need to provide their own cues, chalk and darts.  All  communal equipment has been popped away for the time being. We hope you understand.

Toilets

Toilets will be regularly cleaned and numbers visiting them at any one time will be restricted. We have adapted our toilets to restrict one male and one female in the respective cubicle at any one time. Staff will be happy to explain and show you our procedures on site when you arrive.

Children and dogs

Much as they like to, please don’t let them wander at this time. Your children will be able to use the play area, and visit the animals,  but please supervise your children at all times.

Government Test and Trace Scheme

We will ask for contact details from a member of each party as per the Government steer to collect information to ‘Test and Trace’ if needed.

Garden etiquette

We respectfully ask that you don’t move tables around, they have been positioned with thought.

If you are feeling at all unwell, please save your visit for another day.

We hope you find all these changes reassuring and feel free to chat anything through with any of our crew when you visit.
